New Years!
Hey Betty's! I'm wondering what you do with your kids on New Year Day and Eve. If I didn't have kids (mine are 6 and 8) I probably wouldn't do anything, but I feel like now I have to make a big deal about it. I know that sounds backwards, and it is, but just go with it. Now, I found a confetti cake on familyfun.com that sounds fun, but since I already have the stuff for red velvet brownies, I'm going to make red velvet confetti brownies. Again...go with it. I also guess we can make some New Year's hats. Aside from those two fascinating ideas, I'm stumped. I really don't know what to cook, because I know my kids aren't going to eat collards greens, sauerkraut, black eyed peas or whatever else you're supposed to eat, no matter how much good luck it's supposed to bring them!

One of the best New Years I ever had was in Atlanta when I was pregnant w/Erika. We just made special foods and ate and relaxed and enjoyed each others company. It was special and allowed us the opportunity to reflect on what lied ahead.
ReplyDeleteThat ain't gonna cut it.
The meal, as I've always understood it, is for New Years Day. The night can be whatever you want. At that age, I think the sparkling cider (grape juice, whatever) is special, esp if you let them drink it in flutes. Be prepared to sacrifice the flutes. But they think that is SO COOL. Make sure dad and you also drink some... Also there's the the good ol' standby: noise makers and hats/tiaras. The truth is, they'll probably fall asleep before you even hit midnight...mine did.
And just to address your question: I'm pretty sure The Bettys are all staying close to home tonight. We are headed to a friend's place for a low-key, two family kinda thing...get to midnight and head home asap. That's about all the effort I'm putting into it.
See what having children does to you? HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
